Unpopular Opinion: Saying, “I’m a servant leader” doesn’t make you one.
Servant leadership isn’t a title—it’s a commitment. It means putting your team’s needs above your ego, making decisions that benefit the whole, and doing the unseen work that makes success possible.
I have sat through SEVERAL meetings where leaders were asked to describe themselves and 99% say some variation of "servant leader." Though, part of my process is to talk to their staff and the proof of their "servant leadership" ain't proofin'.
Here's how to tell if you are actually a servant leader:
✅ Do I remove obstacles for my team—or create more?
✅ Do I actively listen—or just wait for my turn to talk?
✅ Do I share credit when things go well—but take ownership when they don’t?
✅ Do I invest in people’s growth—or just expect them to “figure it out”?
✅ Do I make time for my team—or am I always “too busy” for them?
Servant leadership isn’t a buzzword. It’s not about looking humble—it’s about doing the work to uplift others.
So, here’s the real question: What do you do to back it up? Let’s talk.👇
